Prospect Roundup 2/21/2012; Zunino, Twomey, & More

Isn’t it great that baseball has started?  Here are some notes from today’s games and the beginning of the season.

  • Mike Zunino went 2-3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks tonight against Bethune-Cookman.
  • Texas A&M’s Tyler Naquin continued his hot start, going 2-4 with a double.
  • Florida State 1st baseman Jayce Boyd went 4-5 with a double tonight against Jacksonville. 
  • El Dorado lefthander Kyle Twomey pitched in a scrimmage Saturday.  He pitched 4 hitless innings, walking 3 and striking out 7 with his fastball at 88-90.
  • Royal Palm Beach outfielder Christopher Barr is off to a fast start, batting .545 with 4 steals in 4 games.
  • Righthander Alec Asher was a 23rd round selection of the Giants in 2010 and is now at Polk State College.  He is off to a fast start this season at 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA.  In 25 innings, he has allowed 10 hits and 5 walks while striking out 29.  His fastball has been up to 95.
  • According to a tweet from Kendall Rogers, Texas State righthander Kyle Finnegan (draft-eligible 2013) hit 97 over the weekend.
