Daniel Garner, a catcher from Sparkman High School in Alabama, took the time to answer some questions recently for MLB Draft Guide. He is currently ranked the number 91 MLB Draft prospect at Draft Nasty. For more on Garner, you can check out his draft profile.
Matt Grabusky: At what age did you begin playing baseball?
Daniel Garner: Six years old – tee ball.
MG: When did you realize that a future in the sport was a legitimate possibility?
DG: It was always a goal from an early age to play in the SEC. I played on great travel ball teams that won a lot of games so I thought I had a chance. I guess it became legitimate after my 10th grade summer when I got my first offer.
MG: Which aspects of your game do you feel are your strengths?
DG: Hitting and arm strength.
MG: Weaknesses?
DG: Keep working on speed.
MG: Is there a Major League Player who you would compare your game with?
DG: From a catching standpoint, I think I am similar to Jonathan Lucroy of the Brewers and from a hitting standpoint, Evan Longoria of the Rays.
MG: Who has had the most influence on your baseball career?
DG: My dad.
MG: What has been the highlight of your baseball career to this point?
DG: Signing a baseball scholarship with Mississippi State.
MG: What are your goals in baseball going forward?
DG: To play in the major leagues.
MG: Who are the best players you have shared the field with?
DG: At the East Coast Pro Showcase and Area Code games everybody was good.
MG: If baseball ended tomorrow, you would?
DG: I would work to earn a college degree and go to law school.
MG: What is something that baseball fans would be surprised to learn about Daniel Garner?
DG: That I am a honor student.
I would like to thank Daniel for taking the time to answer questions for MLB Draft Guide and our readers. I really appreciate it.
