Scouting Report: updated on 10/27/2011
Mitchell Traver was one of my favorite pitching prospects at the Perfect Game All-American Classic. He is a tall righthander with a big frame and big arm.
Traver has a simple low effort delivery. It is surprisingly smooth for his size. He has a 3/4 release point and does a good job of repeating his delivery.
Traver’s fastball is from 90-94 with arm side run. Some reports from the WWBA World Championships in Jupiter had his fastball up to 95. His velocity should increase as he matures. A curve and change are Traver’s secondary pitches. The curve shows very good potential and is plus, at times. He has shown good feel for the change and it is also becoming a quality offering.
Occasional issues with control seem to be all that stand in the way of Traver reaching his potential. He has all the physical tools you want in a pitcher. Traver’s continued development in the spring will be interesting to watch.
